15.0 g NaNO3 15.0 g NaNH2 NaN3 mass

 

 

Sodium azide, the explosive chemical used in automobile airbags,

is made by the following reaction:

NaNO3 + 3NaNH2 → NaN3 + 3NaOH + NH3

 

If you combine 15.0 g NaNO3 with 15.0 g NaNH2,

what mass of NaN3 is produced?

15.0 g / (84.99 g/mol) = 0.1765 mol NaNO3

15.0 / 39.01 = 0.3845 mol NaNH2
