Molten gallium reacts with arsenic

to from the semiconductor, gallium arsenide, GaAs.

Ga(l) + As(s) → GaAs(s)

 

If 5.0 g of gallium is reacted with 6.0 g of arsenic,

a) Which is limiting reactant?

(Ga = 70 amu, As = 75 amu)

b) If you obtained the 8.1 g of GaAs product,

what is the percent yield of the product?

Ga + As → GaAs

 

Ga : As = 1 : 1 계수비(= 몰수비) 이므로,

몰수가 작은 Ga이 limiting reactant.

Ga : GaAs = 1 : 1 계수비(= 몰수비) 이므로,

생성되는 GaAs의 몰수 = 0.07143 mol

 

 

 

GaAs의 몰질량 = 70 + 75 = 145 g/mol

0.07143 mol × (145 g/mol) = 10.36 g

---> 이론적 수득량

 

 

 

percent yield = (8.1 g / 10.36 g) × 100 = 78%
