흑연의 결합 차수. bond order of C-C in graphite

The C-C bond length in graphite is 1.42 .

How does this compare with the C-C bond length in:

a. diamond 1.54

b. benzene 1.39

c. ethylene 1.33

What do you expect the bond order is in graphite?

-----------------------------------------

I would expect the bond order of graphite to be most similar to that of benzene given the similar bond distances in these 2 compounds.

In graphite, each carbon atom is sp2 hybridized and exits in a sheet of hexagons (each C atom is bonded to 3 others). This means that each carbon atom forms 3 σ bonds with its 3 neighbors and then shares a π bond across all 3.

So the overall bond order is 4 bonds / 3 atoms = 1.33.

[참고]
bond order of C-C in diamond = 4 bonds / 4 atoms = 1

bond order of C-C in graphite = 4 bonds / 3 atoms = 1.33
bond order of C-C in benzene = 3 bonds / 2 atoms = 1.5
bond order of C-C in ethylene = 2 bonds / 1 atom = 2

bond order of C-C in acetylene = 3 bonds / 1 atom = 3
