Franklin D. Murphy는 1960년 ~ 1967년 UCLA 총장을 지낸 인물로,

UCLA 발전에 크게 공헌한 그의 업적을 기리기 위해

1967년 이 조각 공원이 헌정되었습니다.

(참고로, 그 다음 총장은 Charles E. Young입니다.)

캠퍼스 북쪽에 조성된 플랭클린 머피 조각 정원은 해머 미술관(Hammer Museum)에서 관리하고 있으며,

조각가들이 직접 기부한 작품들과 동문 또는 동문회에서 구매하여 기부한 작품들이

5 에이커(6,120 평, 0.02 제곱킬로미터)의 대지에 약 70여점이 전시되어 있습니다.
