A sample of propane (C3H8) is placed in a closed vessel together with an amount of O2 that is 2.50 times the amount needed to completely oxidize the propane to CO2 and H2O at constant temperature.

Calculate the mole fraction of the each component in the resulting mixture after oxidation assuming that H2O is present as gas.

균형 맞춘 반응식

C3H8(g) + 5O2(g) 3CO2(g) + 4H2O(g)

 

반응 용기에 propanex mol 있다면, O2mol수는

x × 5 × 2.5 = 12.5x

 

C3H8 : O2 : CO2 : H2O = 1 : 5 : 3 : 4 반응 비이므로,

propane1x mol 반응하면,

O2 5x mol 반응(감소), CO2 3x mol 생성(증가), H2O 4x mol 생성(증가)하므로,

반응이 끝난 후, 반응 용기에 남아있는 각 물질의 mol수는

O2 = 12.5x 5x = 7.5x = (5 × 2.5 5)x

CO2 = 3x

H2O = 4x

 

전체 mol= 7.5 + 3 + 4 = 14.5x

 

각 물질의 몰분율은

O2 = 7.5x / 14.5x = 0.517

CO2 = 3x / 14.5x = 0.207

H2O = 4x / 14.5x = 0.276
