molar solubility of AgCl in 0.100 M NH3

 

 

Calculate the molar solubility of AgCl (Ksp = 1.8e-10) in 0.100 M NH3 (Kf = 1.6e+7 for Ag(NH3)2^+).

Kc = [Ag(NH3)2^+][Cl^-] / [NH3]^2

(x / (0.100-2x))^2 = 0.00288

x / (0.100-2x) = (0.00288)^(1/2) = 0.0536656

x = 0.00536656 0.107331x

1.107331x = 0.00536656

 

x = 0.00536656 / 1.107331

= 0.00485 M = [Cl^-] = [AgCl]
